Have you reached a point where you feel disconnected from yourself, overwhelmed by life, and unsure how to move forward? If so, I understand. I’ve been there. At the age of 53, I found myself at my heaviest weight, feeling shut down and unwilling to put myself out into the world. My confidence had hit rock bottom, and I knew I needed to make a change to feel better about myself and create my next chapter.

That pivotal moment led me to dedicate myself to new habits that transformed my life. I rediscovered my passion for health and weight loss, and through this journey, I lost over 100 pounds, regained my confidence, and found a new sense of purpose. Now, I want to help you do the same.

Why I Made a Change

Reaching my heaviest weight of 252 pounds was more than just a physical issue; it was an emotional and mental one as well. I felt sluggish, unmotivated, and disconnected from who I truly was. It was a wake-up call that I could no longer ignore. I realized I had to take control of my health to regain my life and confidence.

Setting Intentions and Creating New Habits

The first step in my transformation was setting clear intentions. I wasn’t just aiming to lose weight; I wanted to improve my overall well-being and feel energetic, strong, and confident. With these intentions, I created a plan and embraced new habits that would help me achieve my goals:

  1. Healthy and Mindful Eating: I prioritized fueling my body with nourishing, nutrient-packed foods while embracing mindful eating. This involved tuning into my body’s hunger and fullness signals and recognizing how my eating nourished my body. I traded processed snacks for fresh produce, lean proteins, whole grains, and veggies. This change aided in weight loss and boosted my energy and mood. I focused on abundance rather than restriction, exploring new foods to add to my plate rather than stressing about what to exclude. 
  2. Regular Exercise: I found joy in movement by experimenting with different activities until I discovered what I loved. Walking, dancing, and Pilates became my go-to exercises, making me feel alive and invigorated.
  3. Staying Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water became a simple yet powerful habit that boosted my energy and reduced unnecessary snacking.
  4. Prioritizing Sleep: Quality sleep became a priority, improving my overall well-being and supporting my weight loss efforts.
  5. Adopting a Holistic Mindset, Combined with the 85/15 rule: Embracing a holistic approach and following the 85/15 guideline was transformative. Using the Circle of Life tool (download here), I could see myself as a complete being. By committing to showing up 85% of the time, I nurtured my best self in a well-rounded manner. Progress over perfection became my mantra, allowing me to focus on growth without the weight of shame. 

Rediscovering Confidence

As I adopted these new habits, the changes in my body and mind were profound. The weight started to come off, my energy levels increased, and most importantly, my confidence returned. I began feeling proud of my accomplishments and more comfortable in my skin. This newfound confidence encouraged me to put myself out into the world again.

Celebrating Progress and Staying Motivated

One of the most important lessons I learned was celebrating progress, no matter how small. Each step forward, whether losing a few pounds or feeling stronger during a workout, was a victory. Celebrating these moments motivated me and reminded me of how far I had come.
